You feel spoiled at every step, by the group of people that make up this great adventure company, which intertwines the Mexican culture, with their love for biking.

This turned out to be a fabulous riding experience. The terrain was varied and fun, the roads were safe, the guides were outstanding and the bikes are well-maintained high-end road bikes. After the ride we stopped for fresh juice, which was very refreshing, and also stopped at a cool neighborhood espresso shop.

They have several different ride options for different abilities, and booking on-line was simple. Additionally, the owners were extremely responsive to several logistical questions I had. If you are considering riding in the PV/Bucerias area, this is the way to go! - Scot Holan

This was my second visit to Bici Bucerias. This year our trip was planned just week prior to departure. I contacted Bici Bucerias told them the dates I would be coming in and asked to join the rides they already had planned. As always, no worries. 

I went to the Bucerias shop on Saturday where they had a bike waiting on me. The staff then installed my pedals I brought (so you know they match your shoes) adjusted the bike to fit me. Within minutes I was riding back to the resort. The next three mornings I met up with the Bici crew for predetermined group rides.

What I like about Bici. They can handle all levels of riders, even on the same ride. We all roll out of town together but soon break up into groups based on your riding ability. There is a Bici staff member that is always last man in, you never feel like you are just on your own. They are able to ride to your level from beginner to top Pro. Never will you feel push (Unless you ask to be) or held back. These folks love to ride and promote cycling at all levels.

The Specialized bicycle are top notch and well maintained. It you have an issue on the road or wish to have a readjustment to the bike fit, no worries. They are prepared for this. On longer rides they often have a support car that is always near the last man or can be called up if needed.

When you are on vacation, you have limited cycling days. Get the most our of those days with a great group of people that will guide you at your ability level.

Amazing Bike Tours out of Puerto Vallarta

While thinking about what it might be like to cycle the Bucerias area, my husband and I were admittedly very cautious. However, after spending a week on the roads we were pleasantly surprised. The area possess beautiful scenery, and the drivers are patient, welcoming and easy going. Both of us felt safer on the roads around Bucerias than we do when we ride in-and-around Calgary. Joel and his guides were fantastic. As one reviewer wrote, “he has a guide to suit every level”. My husband and I are both avid racers; however, Joel and his crew did a fantastic job of accompanying our skill sets with those of the beginners that rode with us. Bucerias is charming and safe, and you will never run out of great places to eat! We plan to come back every year in January to escape the bitter Alberta cold. We strongly encourage you to contact Joel and his staff to experience a riding vacation like no other. Just beware of the happy hour “double” margaritas at Karen’s. One too many and you won’t be riding the next day…:)

My wife and I just returned from Bucerias, Mexico. One of the highlights of our trip was Bici Bucerias. Many thanks to Joel, Jillian, Bob and Curtis for setting up such great tours. I met other riders from all over North America and everyone was delighted with their tour. Regardless of your biking ability, this is a great way to spend a few hours and work up an appetite for dinner in one of the many fabulous restaurants in Bucerias.

"I met Joel (a fellow Canadian) via referral of a local bike shop and was thrilled to go on a two rides with his company. We did a local ride of 100k from Marina Vallarta to north of Punta Mita which was an amazing ride with over 30 cyclists who joined in on the way.

I was very impressed with Joel and his team on getting it organized in short order. He supplied me with a top Specialized Bike and shoes and clips and helmet so I could feel more comfortable.

My second ride was a Fat Tire Bike Food tour through Bucerias with my wife and a guide which was also extremely memorable.

I had the chance to get away on a warm holiday this past January.  We stayed in Bucerias Mexico.  It was the perfect destination because I could both relax with my family and experience some amazing road rides.  I found a tour and bike rental outfit called Bici Bucerias.  They hooked me up with a bike and gave me personal tours of the roads in the area.  Once familiar with the ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ of road riding in rural Mexico, I set off on my own.  The highways are without a proper shoulder but found the drivers to be courteous and willing to share the road.  I didn’t experience any ‘close calls.’  Overall the highways are in very good shape.  The scenery is stunning.

Cyclists are inherently selfish or at least we can be perceived that way. Masters racers (blasters) are even more so with a fear that if we stop training or take a beach vacation we will loose everything (fitness) and the next season will be that much harder to hold the wheels of riders young enough to be our children. So what do you do if you want to go on a beach vacation and have the best of both worlds? That world being family fun, riding and sightseeing, go to Bucerias Mexico and try to convince your wife to ride on cobble stone roads, eat street food and ride local transit.

Bucerias is a small Mexican town just north of Puerto Vallarta that is a mix of small hotels, VRBO rentals, expats, small markets, min-supers, friendly locals, safe streets, awesome restaurants and quiet beaches. Bucerias is also a great hub for road cycling which you would never think on first site. The area is a great launching pad to ride in to the back country on quiet roads, with scenic vistas, long climbs, colonial towns, inexpensive (cheap) food and, most importantly, safe places to ride. The locals show a lot of respect for cyclists and perhaps it speaks to a culture that relies on bikes for transportation, a stark contrast to riding around Calgary.

EPIC CYCLING NEAR PUERTO VALLARTA

One of the more epic rides that we did was up to San Sebastian a 16th century Spanish silver mining town. What made the ride awesome was the climbing which is the only way to get there. Starting out just east of Puerto Vallarta you climb for roughly 36 km deep in to the Sierra mountains. The climbs have no rhythm as the mountains are a series of foothills that fold over top of each other and get increasingly higher. Just as you think you might be cresting the summit you descend a bit and start over again. The climb starts with palm trees at sea level and finishes with pine trees at roughly 14oo meters above sea level.

We were fortunate on the ride with the weather which was perfect. As you ascend the temperature tends to drop and there was a 10 degree difference from bottom to top. Another aspect that made the ride awesome was that it was a supported ride. We had a driver who provided hand ups when needed but there....
